Natural Cures for Headaches
If you suffer from chronic headaches -- whether they are tension, trauma or
migraine headaches, there are natural cures for headaches that may be able to help relieve your pain.
The first of these is a light finger pressure massage technique, which is known as trigger point
therapy and is usually performed by a chiropractor. In this form of therapy, light finger pressure is applied to
all muscle bundles that are found on the back of the head, shoulders, middle back or neck. Once the therapist
applies the pressure, it is steadily increased for about five seconds and then all pressure is released from the
muscle fiber.

Stretches called range of motion stretches have also shown to benefit many headache sufferers.
These exercises include turning your head to the left as far you can and holding it for a count of 10. You then
repeat this, turning your head to the right as far as you can and holding it for a count of 10. You should
repeat this exercise three times.
Another range of motion exercise consists of moving or dropping your head to your right shoulder as
far as you can and then to your left shoulder as far as you can. Again, you should hold these stretches for a
count of 10 and repeat them three times.
Alternative health care
Many experts believe that since almost all major types of headaches are caused by a physical
problem, they can best be treated using a natural physical approach or natural cures for headaches.
In fact, the New England Journal of Medicine recently reported in a landmark study that more
than one-third of all Americans are now choosing alternative healthcare over conventional healthcare for the
treatment of their headaches. And the American College of Physicians has found that nearly 70% of all headache
sufferers have tried alternative treatments such as going to a chiropractor and have found success.
A staggering 90%
The British Medical Journal found in one study that migraine sufferers responded
dramatically to adjustments from a chiropractor. In fact, the results of this study showed that the number of
migraine episodes were reduced by a staggering 90% and the duration of the migraine headaches reduced by
30%.
While research studies have shown that natural headache treatments such as those performed by
chiropractors have helped many patients, it doesn't necessarily mean that these treatments will work for you.
There are other natural cures for headaches that have helped many sufferers. If you have found that prescription
drugs do not help with the duration or severity of your headaches, you might want to try alternative approaches
such as chiropractic, natural supplements, or treatment by an osteopathic doctor (DO). The important thing isn't
what treatments have worked for others but which natural cures for headaches will give you the pain relief that
can help you live a better and healthier life.
