Antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil), Desipramine (Norpramin), imapramine (Tofranil), Doxeprin (Sinequan),  and Nortryptiline (Pamelor) and protryptiline Vivactil) have also been used for chronic tension headache help.

There are drugs available that can help stop a chronic tension headache once it has started. The first line treatment for these headaches include:

Combination drugs for chronic tension headache help

These are medications that combine aspirin or acetaminophen with caffeine or or a sedative drug such as butalbital. Ophoids (meperidine and morphine), fenoprofen (Nalfon), and flurbiprofen (Ansaid) have also been prescribed to treat these headahces.

Your doctor may also suggest muscle relaxants such as Flexeril and Soma.
